KONICA MINOLTA - WINDSOR, CT. This was a complete renovation of the main lobby with new drywall partitions, curved soffit above the desk, curved wall with pockets for accent color tiles behind the desk, acoustical ceilings, floor tile, carpet, mill work and new reception desk.
TOWN FAIR TIRE - DAYVILLE, CT This project required heavy gauge metal stud framing to create a new exterior façade on the existing building. Most of the framing was prefabricated on site. All framing was sheathed with 3/4” plywood and made ready for roofing by others. We also built a new firewall between to separate the showroom from the lift bays. Two new ADA toilets were also built utilizing metal stud framing, 5/8” drywall, FRP panels, acoustical ceilings and hollow metal doors and frames.
JEWETT CITY SAVINGS BANK - CENTRAL VILLAGE BRANCH - PLAINFIELD, CT RCA's job was to frame the walls and lighting cove with metal studs, the actual drywall was installed by another contractor. Once drywall was finished and painted, grid and tile were installed as well as installation of two ceiling clouds.
MYSTIC SEAPORT - TURNER EXHIBIT - THOMPSON BUILDING - MYSTIC, CT RCA was given a seven day window to build multiple walls for displaying a priceless collection of watercolor paintings by J. M. W. Turner from Tate. Attaching of the walls to the floor was not allowed, so with that in mind we decided to go with parallel walls that were 48 inches apart. A wood shoe painted black to create a reveal and secured to the floor with industrial grade Velcro gave us what we needed to fasten the metal track and control any lateral movement there by keeping everything in place. Components (brackets) of the parallel walls were fabricated using a jig on location. By utilizing a truss type of internal bracing, we achieved the lateral stability we needed and saved time during the assembly process. The “brackets” were set 16” O.C. in double tracks typically 48” apart, then the tops were connected with another set of parallel metal track. Plywood was attached to the framing and then covered with ½” drywall.
The stability of the sixteen-foot-high “T” wall was an initial concern but when all was said and done, the sheer weight and the 48” wide footprint resulted in a very stable structure. One end of the “T” wall was resting on one of the 8’ walls but the other end had to be supported from the top with a back to back 6” 18 gauge structural joists running down both sides and cantilevering out to 8’.
MYSTIC SEAPORT - STILLMAN BUILDING - MYSTIC, CT This silo like structure was created within a display area being prepared for a new whaling exhibit. 20 gauge metal studs and 1/2" drywall were used to make the curved walls. Another part of this build was a video viewing room complete with acoustical wall panels.
HIGH POINT CHURCH - THOMPSON, CT Installed 2'x2' ceiling grid with an apex of 40 feet. It was necessary to build a rolling staging big enough to allow us to install grid all the way down one side then turn the staging 180 degrees and proceed back down the opposite side. A second mobile staging was required on the stage platform. The slope and plane of the ceiling were accomplished by using 2 remote controlled lasers mounted on special wall brackets. The entire ceiling was laid out on the floor allowing us to run the grid from both sides to the center ending up with full tile on both sides of the peak.
UNITED NATURAL FOODS, INC. - DAYVILLE, CT This project was a complete demolition of the existing employee toilets and locker rooms. All new waste and supply lines were installed along with new Metal Stud framing with moisture resistant and anti-microbial gypsum board. New 12” x 12” ceramic tiles were installed on the walls and floors. All plumbing fixtures were replaced, new toilet partitions, handicap grab bars and mirrors were installed as were new solid surface vanity tops with integral sinks. All vanities received new mirrors and drywall ceiling with new lighting. Next came a new 2x2 reveal edge ceiling tile in white grid. The Men’s locker room received new lockers and a center bench made from the salvaged maple bench. The lockers in the women’s room were repainted and the existing maple bench was refinished.
WINDHAM AREA INTERFAITH MINISTRY - WILLIMANTIC, CT RCA's area of responsibility on this job was to install Curtain wall framing between red iron structural steel for a new 75 foot tall exterior elevator tower. 16 gauge metal studs were used for the framing with GP exterior sheathing. Fiberglass mesh tape was applied to all joints and then covered with silicone. The interior of the shaft received double layer of 5/8” type X fire code gypsum board on walls and ceilings. The roof structure was prefabricated, disassembled and then reassembled piece by piece atop the tower and then covered with 5/8 CDX plywood. All roofing and exterior finishes were the responsibility of the general contractor.
MUNSON'S CHOCOLATES - WEST HARTFORD CT Built new drywall soffits consisting of various angles and radii then we installed acoustical ceiling grid and tiles.
MUNSON'S CHOCOLATE - AVON, CT This project required the construction of parallel walls and soffits at different heights and radii to receive glass fiber reinforced gypsum units being manufactured in Canada. What proved to be the biggest challenge was the mitering of 2 units with different radii. Once all the components were in place, only drywall taping remained to be done and again the miters were problematic. A custom color grid and ceiling tile were installed throughout the store.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - PLAINFIELD, CT New vaulted ceiling and lighting installed in the warehouse showroom.
WOYASZ FUNERAL HOME - UNCASVILLE, CT RCA's part of this renovation was to build a separation wall between the main room and back area.
